I HAVE been learning and performing music since the age of about three. My first musical memories were attempting to play children’s tunes (London Bridge, Three Blind Mice, etc.) on my mother’s upright piano. After she noticed I was taking an interest in music she gave me lessons for about a year herself, before eventually signing me up for formal lessons around the age of five. I had classical piano instruction for a little over ten years with the same teacher until about the time I turned 15 years old.
In high school, I gave up piano lessons for about three years and studied the pipe organ, under Dr. Carl Swanson at Cal Lutheran University while I was attending high school. When I left for college I found myself at Cal State University, Northridge studying to obtain a B.A. in Music Business, which I received in 2002. It was during university that I was part of the University Choir and I also continued to collect various instruments and learn them to varying levels of accomplishment.
Both during and after university, I had taught myself (or had a little tutelage) in Scottish Highland bagpipes, acoustic guitar, mandolin, piano accordion, tenor banjo, and Irish whistles. I am still in the process of learning a few other instruments like Northumbrian bagpipes and pedal steel guitar. I currently own and operate Weathertop Studio in southwest Riverside County, California where I’ve had the pleasure of working with artists and bands from a variety of genres. I’ve been an active performing musician in the Celtic community of Southern California for nearly 15 years now.
